Tobermory has the atmosphere of a quiet urban village, while reflecting on its historical charm as a fishing village. Take a stroll on the beautiful brick walkways, enjoy the flowerbeds and boardwalks that surround the docks, all while perusing the wide variety of one-of-a-kind shops and amenities offered in Tobermory. Enjoy sweets, treats, fine dining, and delicious desserts! Shop for clothing, gifts, antiques, local art, home décor & more!
At the top of the Bruce Peninsula, Tobermory houses two harbours, charmingly named Little Tub Harbour & Big Tub Harbour. The cliff ringed harbor showcases the beautiful scenery, while the glistening waters boast incredible shipwrecks and geographical features! In the waters of Georgian Bay lie some of Canada’s best preserved shipwrecks, many dating back to the mid-19th and early 20th centuries. Tobermory is one of the great locations of the freshwater world to enjoy diving! It has even been coined the “SCUBA Diving Capital of Ontario”! One can even enjoy the coves and many inland lakes by canoe or kayak! Cyprus Lake and the Grotto are two very popular areas. The Grotto boasts amazing views of Georgian Bay and breathtaking cliffs. The Grotto was carved by the waves of Georgian Bay over thousands of years, and today visitors may climb the trails, or swim in the crystal clear waters!
Tobermory also extends outside of the town to offer visitors an all-more encompassing experience! Visitors may enjoy mini-golf, camping, or board the MS Chi-Cheemaun to Manitoulin Island! The MS Chi-Cheemaun’s name originates from the Ojibwe word for “big canoe”, and has ferried passengers from Tobermory to South Bay Mouth since 1974! At 112 meters long, she carries 638 passengers and 143 automobiles! Additional glass bottom boat cruises are available to ferry passengers to various destinations surrounding Tobermory. Passengers may view shipwrecks, underwater rock formations, and even disembark at Flower Pot Island. These flower-pot shaped cliffs are over 1,000 years old, formed by glacial lake levels 20 meters higher than present levels!
If you prefer to keep your feet on land, the Bruce Peninsula National Park provides an abundance of geographical features, animals and plant life. Tobermory is the terminus of the Bruce Trail, which offers hikers a challenging 890km trek across the province! Sand dunes, towering cliffs, caves and cobble stone beaches; the Bruce Peninsula has it all!
